The earliest traces of the Chapin family name come from Paigton, England and date back to the early 16th century. The Chapin family in the United States descended from Deacon Samuel Chapin, who came from Paignton, England to Roxbury, Massachusetts in the early 17th century. Deacon Samuel was born on October 8, 1598 to John and Phillipe Easton Chapin. Samuel was one of five children. He and his wife, Cicley Penny Chapin moved to America in 1635 where his seven children were born. Cathrine, the eldest daughter, is a direct ancestor of President Taft.

The Chapin family has continued in America for over three centuries. Chapins can be found in every part of the country and the world. If you wish to contribute to the family history, please e-mail Scott and your piece of Chapin history can be added to the site to be enjoyed by all.
